I signed up for this tournament for the first time to support the organisers' efforts to promote women's squash in Scotland. I've been playing squash for over five years, and although I enjoy competing, my main goals here have been to meet new people and have fun, which the organisers seem to promote. Initially, the organisers hadn't contacted me beforehand to assess my skill level and placed me in the draw with more advanced players. I didn't pay too much attention because I usually have positive experiences playing with more experienced players. However, during this tournament, I encountered unexpected aggression from Nicola Morgan, which made me feel unsafe on court. Our levels were clearly disproportional, and it was obvious to both of us that she was a much stronger player, who could finish the rally at any moment she wanted. When trying to communicate to her that I would prefer more cooperative rallies, the player mimicked my accent, spoke aggressively, insisting that she would compete the way she wants to and that I don't get to tell her how to compete. I had to leave the court when she appeared very irritated with me for winning one point and threw the ball at me, saying aggressively, "There, have your point!" While organisers came up to me later to check on my well-being and offered a more friendly match with another person, they didn't apologise for the distress this situation caused, nor did the player herself, who made me feel unsafe. The organisers were further distanced and appeared unfriendly.
